Travel: Washington on the Brazos

Spring in Texas is breathtaking, and my family and I decided to get outdoors and see some of the prettiest wildflowers in bloom. One of the first spots to stop at was Washington on the Brazos. It's a beautiful state park that happens to be the birthplace of texas. With soft, rolling hills and grassy knolls - it's a perfect spot to have a picnic amongst fields of blooming flowers.
I decided to wear my light blue coat (last seen here and here), which was a clearance find from Kohl's (but here is another one under $50). I paired it with a cute gingham button up and crisp white jeans. It was still pretty cool that morning, so the sweater came in pretty handy when I layered it over the button up and under the coat.
I love the way the light blue and rich warm leather on my shoes and bag play off of one another. This particular shade of brown happens to be very close to the color orange. Orange and blue are contrasting colors on the color wheel - so they work well when you put them together. I really love the casual, preppy feel of this and it's perfect for a weekend look.
Washington on the Brazos has beautiful trails, overlooks and a variety of plants and wildlife. We took an hour and wandered all over the property. It's a nice walk without being too strenuous. The entire trip is about an hour outside of Houston if you are looking to get away for a little while. Because it's a state park, it doesn't cost anything to go and a great place to bring something for a lunch and eat on the soft grass.
