When my sister and I decided to plan a Sister Trip, her only requirement was for us to go to a cave. There are tons of caverns all over the area. At first we thought we would go to A Cave With No Name, but once we arrived at our AirBnB cabin (see this post), we decided to settle upon Cascade Caverns at the recommendation of our host. The tour was $15 per person and about 45 minutes long. One of the best parts of the tour was learning the history behind the cave. Originally, to enter the cave someone had to be placed in a bucket and pulley system descending 80 feet below to enter. Later on, an new entrance to the cave was constructed with stair steps making it easy to enter and exit.
I picked up these Hunter rain boots for the Fall season and this was my first time wearing them for a long period of time. I have to say, they are really comfortable! I can't wait to wear them more into the cooler season. Since it was still pretty warm I wore a pair of simple DIY cut off shorts that have been a main staple for me over the past few months with an adorable peplum top.
The caverns were chilly and it was so fun to get to learn about the history of the cave. There were artifacts dating thousands of years back. There were several waterfalls that no longer ran in the cave but striated the walls to form a beautiful sculptured walls. The cave also had the most interested textured ceiling in some place with hundreds of mini stalactites that were shaped like straws. Throughout most of the hike, we were not allowed to touch the walls of the cave because the oil of our hands would cause the surface to change. But it was really interesting to see all of the ways water shaped the stone underground.
My sister and I spent time hiking on the grounds before touring the cave. There is camping and hiking on the property with all sorts of desolate trails. My Peter Grim hat is one of my favorites to wear when I'm countryside. It's lightweight and keeps the sun from glaring into my eyes. I've found that wearing my hair in pigtail or a side braid keeps it from getting all tangled underneath the hat. I always try to dress in something I am comfortable in - no matter what the occasion is... but that doesn't mean I have to look frumpy. Comfort for me is making sure I am equipped for whatever activity and not too cold or hot.
