Creamy Skies on an Autumn Evening

Yesterday afternoon we drove into Austin for a girls weekend. I promised my daughter at the beginning of the year we would take a vacation before the year ended. Well, better late than never so here we are in Austin, TX. It’s been such a blast getting to see some of my favorite places. I used to live in Austin in my early 20’s and it still holds a special place in my heart. We made it to town early afternoon so we could check into our hotel and get our dog settled. I’ll be sharing more about the weekend and how we are traveling safely while also staying socially distant in an upcoming post with a full itinerary of the weekend. It’s a perfect place to visit during this time of year!

One of the best views in the city is Mt. Bonnell. You can climb up in about a five minute walk to get a breathtaking view of the entire city. I’ve share about this location before during sunrise and sunset is just as beautiful. Because the view sits on the 360 loop it’s a beautiful sunset drive up there! Highly recommend to do if you are looking to visit Austin. We dressed up for dinner and then made the walk up for a brief glimpse of sunset. It was amazing and she told me she wanted to just sit and enjoy this because we don’t get to see it every day.

Austin is a mecca for all things outdoors like hikes, scenic walks, kayaking and swimming in natural swimming holes. We have plans to enjoy the outdoors all weekend while we are here. It’s also a beautiful time of year to visit with so many of the trees changing from green to orange and brown. The Texas Hill Country has a beautiful Fall and I realized after living in Houston the majority of her life she’s never really experienced the Fall season. Perfect getaway for being a couple hours from both Houston and Dallas.

Since we were heading to dinner after this I wore an adorable navy velvet dress with a flutter sleeve and flared skirt. Austin has southwest vibes and cowboy boots are a year round staple. I grabbed these that I’m wearing from a visit to the Ft. Worth Stockyards at a vintage shop but rounded up several other options here, here and here that are two toned. They are really comfortable which makes long walks easy and have good grip on them for uneven terrain. If you are going to grab a pair of boots make sure you don’t slide around in them. I paired the whole look with tortoise earrings to dress down the velvet and a simple medium size navy bag. These days I’m carrying sanitizer, masks, and all the regular essentials so I’ve upgraded in size to something slightly larger than my typical mini crossbody.
