I love decorating! Who else? Are you one of those who is constantly rearranging things inside your home? One of the easiest ways to get in the fall spirit is to add few touches to your home. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money or be a big hassle - but a few embellishments go far! You don’t have to stop at decor, think about creating an experience when you walk in your door. We are spending so much more time indoors these days it’s nice to have a place that’s welcoming and warm as the months get cooler.

Switch to cozy textures

An easy way to give your space a cozy feel is to change out throws and pillows. You can opt for luxurious fabrics like velvet and suede. I love being able to add touches of chenille and fleece. Your entire space doesn’t need an overhaul, just grab a pillow or two and pull out your blankets to drape across the back of a chair. You can also add foot blankets to the ends of your beds to give them a layered look.

Start a collection for seasonal display

Right now I can’t get enough pumpkins. Yep, everywhere I go I keep seeing glass, copper and ceramic pumpkins. I’ve found them everywhere from the dollar store to department stores. I recently added DIY shelves in my apartment underneath my bar area instead of bar stools. Since just my daughter and I live here, that seemed to be a much more practical idea than another dining area. We already have patio seating and a dining room table. The shelves were simple to assemble and under $25. I plan to swap out different figurines and decor items throughout each season for an easy change. Plus, it provides additional storage for books and pretty glassware.

Tap into all five senses

Another trick up my sleeve is to incorporate seasonal flavors and smells. Swap out your candles for rich pumpkin and apple spice scents. You can boil cinnamon sticks on the stove top or small crock pot for a fresh warm smell. Creating a warm environment doesn’t stop at aesthetics. Another thing I’ve been doing is rotating my coffee to a Maple Pecan roast from Lola Savannah out of Houston, TX. I think to date this is THE BEST COFFEE I’VE EVER HAD. You can use syrups like toffee nut or salted caramel mocha to give even more flavor. If you prefer tea try a cinnamon apple or chai. Simply put in a pretty copper bowl so they are easy for grab and go.

What Autumn inspired things will you be implementing in your home this year?

Stack books or magazines with Fall activities and inspiration on your coffee table or nightstand so you can get inspired when you have a few minutes of downtime. It’s nice to be off screen and just enjoy the little moments. Creating a simple ritual like that halfway through your day makes working from home so much sweeter.
