I’m sharing a live on Facebook this Friday at 8:30pm on Five Steps to Start a Blog. You can register here and its a FREE Masterclass. We will cover some of what I share in today’s post, plus so much more. You will walk away feeling empowered and equipped with a game plan to launch your own blog. So with further ado, let’s jump into today’s discussion on how to start your own blog in five easy steps.

  1. Pick a name. You can create a brand name, go with your actual first and last name or I’ve seen a lot of people use their first and middle name. I chose Three Heel Clicks based on my favorite childhood movie, Wizard of Oz. It’s a great mix of fashion, adventure, and life lessons. Whatever you choose, remember things can evolve over time. Pick a starting point!

  2. Register your domain name, and social media handles (even if you have zero plans of posting any time soon on some of them), and pick a web hosting platform. I personally use Squarespace for its ease of use. Prior to that, I used Blogger. You’ll want something easy to use at the beginning so you don’t overcomplicate things. Again, pick a starting point. You can also have someone build you a site if you want something turn key out of the door. Either way, there’s no right or wrong. Pick a starting point and move forward.

  3. Create content. This is where you will do a few things to create a solid post. You’ll need images and copy. You can treat it like an essay, create shopping boards, photographs, videos and so much more depending on the platform you use to blog. You’ll also need copy so that your posts have text. You can bulk-create content or do each post individually. Do not overthink blogging. The best way to get started is to just get started!

  4. Monetize your blog. You can become an Amazon Influencer, Collective Voice, LTK, are all platforms you can join to get access to a linking dashboard. Then, use text links and links behind all of your photographs to drive followers to various places you can earn a commission. Another option is to create sponsored posts and sell space on your blog for a certain amount.

  5. Publish and push to social media. Simple but create yourself a workflow and stick to it every time you publish a post. It will create synergy between your platforms and increase your follower count. Create simple habits that you can achieve daily, weekly, and monthly to make your life easier. Do not overcomplicate it!
