One of the Spring to-do's for me was to visit a flower garden. The Houston Museum of Fine Arts has a historic home and garden close to the Galleria that is absolutely breathtaking. Every Spring they host an event there called the "Trail of Azalea's." The Bayou Bend Collection and Garden boasts of hundreds of thousands of azaleas in bloom during the month of March. We took the afternoon to do a little exploring.
Every single corner of the property was in bloom with pink and white flowers. It was such a fun afternoon. One of my favorite childhood movies growing up was The Secret Garden. The story is about a young girl who restores an old garden and finds magic in the every day. I felt like I was actually a part of something magical stomping around the property.
On warmer days like this, I love to be comfortable but still look chic. A loose navy blouse, scalloped flats and palm printed shorts are a great combo for a picnic or walk through a garden. Spring is pretty temperamental here in Texas - one day hot and the next chilly, so I have a mix of items handy that I can switch out with jeans or throw on a jacket if it gets cooler. When the sun it's out, we tend to get a lot of heat - so hats have become a necessity and this floppy one is a favorite of mine.
I love this vintage straw bag I wore last here, it's perfect to pack a few bottles of water or snacks in for an afternoon out of the house. I prefer to wear either a cross body or a tote for the weekends. Something roomy or something that keeps me hands free. I love how colorful it is and how it plays off the print in the shorts.
I'm working on finalizing my Spring Bucket list to include other things like a picnic amongst the blooming wildflowers and baking pastel macaroons for Easter Sunday! I made a Holiday Bucket list last Winter and ended up crossing every item off. I find if I write my goals down, they are more likely to get accomplished. Stay tuned for upcoming ideas for this Spring.
