How to Keep Hair Healthy During the Fall/Winter Dry Season

I don’t know about you but as soon as the temperatures start dropping and moisture leaves the air I’m affected head to toe. I feel like I am constantly rotating between exfoliating and moisturizing. I find that my scalp seems dry, my hair and my body all are affected by weather swings and the change in humidity. I’ve found the key to any issue regarding your skin or hair is best addressed early and often! Here are a few tips for managing your hair this Fall and Winter season for shiny, healthy locks!
Start with a Scalp Treatment
If you think about it, your entire head is covered by skin right? So if it’s important to exfoliate for cell turnover then you may want to consider a treatment to combat a dry scalp. Dry scalps are almost synonmoys with thick and/or curly hair. One of the signs are dry flakes or being itchy. Try using Head & Shoulders Scalp Detoxifying Pre-Wash Mask with Eucalyptus and Mint once every couple of weeks to ensure you keep your scalp flake free! It’s also perfect to stick in your suitcase if you have holiday travel plans!
Minimize Your Washes and Heat
Things that strip your hair of natural oils include heat appliances and washing your hair every day. It took me a few weeks, but about a year ago I started washing my hair less and less. I realized the less I washed my hair the more my body adjusted to the routine. Now I wash it about once a week leaving locks so much healthier than they’ve ever been! I also use a heat protectant like Chi 44 Iron Guard before you use a curling wand or straightener.
Moisturize Your Locks
Conditioner and leave - in conditioner are as vital as water this time of the year. Start in the shower by using a wide tooth comb to apply a conditioner like Tigi Bed Head Urban Antidotes Resurrection Conditioner. It leaves my strands so smooth immediately after rinsing. If you color treat or have damaged hair you’ll notice a major difference! After rinsing clean, use a towel to de-frizz your strands and dry then add Biosilk Silk Therapy Treatment.

The past six months of my life have been emotionally challenging. Postpartum combined with several joyful life changes left me feeling like I had new roles to step into and the pressure was high. Right before my husband and I had our baby we made the decision to start a new business. From the outside it looked like I had it together, but the next few months would unveil a completely different side of me that I wasn’t prepared to deal with.
