How to Wear Athleisure Without Looking Frumpy
Ever since the pandemic hit, athleisure has made it’s way into my regular everyday wardrobe. As more and more places are opening up we are all itching to get out of our homes. Although I still practice social distancing, I do find myself getting into “real clothes” these days. Matching sets, rugby shirts, pastel hued yoga pants, baseball caps and other athleisure items are at the top of my list when I get dressed in the mornings. Even on web calls, you’ll oftentimes find me wearing yoga pants. I like to be put together and comfy. Today I’m sharing a few tips for wearing athleisure without looking frumpy!
Fit is Everything
Having clothes fit properly it a key to looking pulled together. I absolutely adore the relaxed fit of the two pullover tops I’m wearing. The sleeves are just long enough to elongate my petite arms without being swallowed up. When I’m trying on tops I like to reach for ones that hit right at the hip. That way you can still see the length of my legs and not feel like I’m wearing a dress.
Pick a color scheme
I wear things in three colors - here it’s light blue, navy and lavender. Choosing a signature color and a couple of neutrals is a good way to start building a wardrobe. When you are building a wardrobe I recommend starting with 5 or 6 colors and buy only in those until you have enough to mix and match! That way you get more outfits for your money! I am especially drawn to navy blue instead of black. I also love tan and white paired with blush and baby blue!
Layers help add depth to an outfit
Double up the collar, let the sleeves and hem peek out. Layers can tag an average item and make it look like a million bucks. Layer jackets over a tank and tee with the hems a t varying lengths. Another trick is to tuck the front of your shirt in and leave the back long. You can layer multiple t-shirts or tank tops to create depth in your outfit!
