Houston Hotspots: Fields of Flowers

Dress: Xakalaka // Shoes: Bucco // Earrings: Newest Trent // Bag: Vintage

I mentioned last week I would be attending the Azalea Trail here in Houston. It's an annual event that takes place across several historic homes. You may remember the last time I posted about this event here, but wanted to revisit the Bayou Bend Museum this year. The first time I visited this site was back in college. Being an interior design student, we were required to visit this location for a project. It was such a fun experience and the house is filled with preserved history.

Houston is known for its long hot summers, but most people are unaware of just how lovely it is here in the Spring. The trees are filled with purple dogwood, the streets are lined with wildflowers and the amount of azaleas in bloom are astonishing. Azaleas are finicky flowers that require acidic soil to thrive. East Texas has just the perfect setting for these little guys. As they begin to shed their blooms, it looks almost like pink and white snow blankets the earth. I absolutely love springtime here.

I decided to wear a very flattering floral dress. It was slightly cool and perfect for this time of year. I paired it with floral espadrilles and a simple vintage circle handle bag. Espadrilles are one of my favorite types of shoe. They are comfortable and feminine but slightly casual at the same time. I love that they give extra inches to my minimal height without looking clunky. I've rounded up a few options if you are looking for a good pair.

Espadrilles
