I’m a sucker for farms. There’s nothing more heavenly to me than driving out to the countryside and learning about various plants and produce. I’ve visited a variety of places over the years like picking out pumpkins at the pumpkin patch and winding through a corn maze at Barton Hills Farm. Grabbing honey at Bee Weaver Farm just a few weeks ago. I’m at heart an outdoor person and Fall in Texas is always a good time to enjoy activities like picnics and wandering aimlessly through nature. This particular Saturday I hopped over to Chappell Hill to visit their lavender fields and store.

It’s been a few years since I traveled here and was anxious to grab fresh lavender goodies. They have a store on the property that serves up the freshest pink lavender lemonade and smells like heaven. After grabbing some of their lavender essential oil and talking to the sweetest lady who helped inform me of plants for sale I wandered outside to enjoy my refreshing beverage on this cloudy afternoon.

The property has two sets of plants - French and Spanish lavender both blooming at different points in the year. In this part of Texas our lavender doesn’t grow the way it does in France due to the climate but still will produce good yield if properly cared for. If you are interested in growing lavender it’s best to do so in pots since the soil around this part of Texas is more clay like and less acidic. There were a few other families on the property having a picnic and getting photographs. I sat down and enjoyed taking in the soft breeze and cool weather.

When I’m on an outing in the country you’ll oftentimes find I wear boots. Because grass is oftentimes high and snakes exist I like to make sure I have a pair of shoes on that will protect my legs. Today I wore a pair of vintage two tone cowboy boots I picked up a few years ago when I visited the Ft. Worth Stockyards. I paired them with a simple pink lace dress and then long embroidered eyelet lace duster. Since I no longer live in a big city, I’ve noticed my wardrobe has shifted. I grab relaxed button up shirts, overalls and comfy clothes most days. Every now and then I will get dolled up, but for most activities I’ve been keeping it more casual.

Do you find your outfits change with your lifestyle changes? If so, I’d love to hear about it! I grew up moving constantly as a military brat and found that adapting to my environment is natural. When I’m in the city I tend to wear more modern cuts while lately I’ve reached for more florals, plaids and relaxed silhouettes.
