Easy Heirloom Tomato Tart On the Patio For dinner
Staying at home means everyday meals are an opportunity to create a little magic. Having extra time on my hands has done some amazing things to the soul! How about you? Are you feeling inspired these days? Lately, I take time to do things with a little more effort instead of my normal rushing through life a million miles a minute. It’s been refreshing for my creative side! Dinner became an heirloom tomato tart on puff pastry al fresco. I’ve even started getting dolled up for dinner at home like they used to in the 1800’s. Taking major cues from southern France’s culture!
Easy Heirloom Tomato Tart Recipe
About an hour before dinner I pulled out a sheet of puff pastry dough and let it defrost at room temperature. This recipe is ridiculously easy and you can change it up depending on what you have in your fridge. I sliced two tomatoes, one shallot and green onions. Once the puff pastry is defrosted (about a half an hour), you unfold it carefully. Add a sauce of your choice, mozzarella cheese, vegetables and then more cheese! Bake for 15-20 min. Serve warm for 1-2 people.
A proper dinner comes with a table setting. Years ago I collected coffee table books filled with interior and exterior design ideas. I remember flipping through the pages of a Pottery Barn hardback and seeing how they quickly set up an outdoor eating area with just a few fresh flowers and decorative plates. I followed suit. I marched myself over to the mailbox to pick these beautiful roses and then arranged inside of a simple hammered silver pitcher.
It was a beautiful cloudy night and I felt like I was instantly transported to a magical place instead of another bland dinner at home. My outfit followed the theme - luxurious velvet top and slippers with a soft chiffon skirt. I was comfortable and at the same time felt like a dream while I enjoyed every last bit of my tomato tart!
