An Afternoon of Unwinding to Get Your Glow Back
Can you believe it’s already March? I’m not sure what shifted but this year is flying by at warp speeds compared to last year. Last weekend I was completely wiped out. Sometimes that happens - the stress of work, kiddos, taking care of others and everything in between compiles and it’s time to just decompress. So that’s exactly what I chose to do. It’s started on Saturday when I took myself for the first time since Covid-19 began to get a manicure and pedicure. Then I proceeded to have a picnic at the park where I read books and journaled. It was needed. Just a little “me” time.
I remember back to years prior when I was involved in a pretty toxic relationship that rarely gave me that “me” time. Sadly, I know many of you feel that constraint in your life right now. I went from long work days to immediately coming home to a mess I often didn’t create to spending time with my other half and then taking care of the kiddo. It was constant work, home, clean, cook, take care of others and repeat. It eventually drove me to panic attacks. I literally had zero “me” time for years. I believe it’s important to get time to unwind alone. It’s in our alone time we have room to think or maybe not even think but just process all of the moments that happen to us. It’s also in our alone time we have more room to appreciate what we do have.
If you are currently feeling constant pressure, it’s time to put a boundary in your life for you. You have to refill your cup before you can fill others. You have to slow down, get rest, read books for fun, put your thoughts on paper, practice good skincare and treat yourself to a day for you. You may be sitting here reading this and think, I wouldn’t even know what to do with myself if I had a day. Start small, carve out time for you to take a bath each night after kids go to bed. Get up a little bit earlier so you can read a book that puts you in a good mental place. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy… so give yourself a little play time. You’ll be able to take care of your responsibilities with a renewed sense of energy and focus. You’ll be able to love on your family better and you’ll be able to recognize when something isn’t a healthy choice in your life. Go ahead and treat yo’self!
