Gosh, I love the ocean. I have to say out of all of the places I lived and visited in my lifetime, I feel most at home when I’m near the ocean. There’s something so soothing and powerful about the water. The waves hold so much force as they push and pull against the grains of sand on the shore. Soft powdery sand that feels like you walking on powdered sugar makes for the best walks. The sunsets are unbelievable and when a storm rolls in…well, as frightening as they are - they also carry so much strength. Today I’m going to share a whole bunch of date ideas, but if you are single… I want you to know it’s okay to do any (or all of these) activities by yourself and show yourself some love. I say that because some of my best memories of my happy place were spent in times of solitude. Valentine’s Day whether you’re in a relationship or not is a day to celebrate love. A day to bring forth self-love and care if you are single. Here’s a word for all the single ladies on valentine’s day if you are looking for some ideas on how to spend your time! Highly recommend some of the tips here! If you are in a couple, I challenge you to take time over the next week to figure out a way to show your partner that you adore them. Brainstorm a few ideas and make the event special. The effort will be worth it!

First, let’s start with understanding your partner. Showing and receiving love can look different to each person. If you haven’t read about the five love languages, I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with it. I believe that people struggle so much in relationships because they show their partner love the way they feel loved instead of the way their partner wants to be loved. Choosing an activity that will light up your partner’s eyes will bring you more joy than I can express! There’s something incredible about making someone else feel special. I wrote a post a few years ago about last-minute gift ideas for each love language. You can read it here!

Let’s now get on to the good stuff! Here’s a fun list of 20 date ideas for Valentine’s Day:

  1. Spend the day at the beach (bring a picnic basket and blanket!)

  2. Take a walk at sunset at a local park or spend time outdoors. Walking together helps two people connect! Plan 30 minutes to an hour and turn those phones off!

  3. Find the prettiest view in your area and take your date to it!

  4. Have a progressive dinner out! Go to one restaurant for happy hour, then another for dinner, and then a coffee shop for a late cup and dessert!

  5. Go to a cooking class together. If you live near a Sur la Table, they have incredible options!

  6. Enlist a friend to help you create a scavenger hunt for the two of you to go on together!

  7. Take a hot air balloon ride.

  8. Snowball fight, sledding, and lots of coffee and hot chocolate if you live near snow.

  9. Take a workout class together. Yoga can be really hot! (no pun intended…)

  10. Go on a long hike (bring snacks, water, and sunscreen) at a local state park. This is actually one of my favorite things to do in life. Basically, get lost for 3 or 4 hours in nature.

  11. Go to a movie, sit in the back, and make out like teenagers again… (you know you want to.)

  12. Arcade and bowling night! Enough said. Always a good time and I’m literally the world’s worst bowler.

  13. Go shopping together to pick out a new outfit and then go to a fancy dinner! Give yourself time to get dressed to the nines.

  14. If you guys love movies, check out a local theater performance. Switch it up! See actors in a live setting.

  15. Take time for both of you to write a letter to one another on stationary. Give each other an hour to come up with something (maybe even 24 hours) and then swap on Valentine’s Day.

Remember, that no matter what the goal is to show your partner and yourself love. To truly love another person, you have to first love yourself. Make sure you are giving attention to both your partner and you! A relationship requires both people to have needs and desires met. Pick out a lovely outfit (this pink dress is a steal and is really flattering for most body types!) Grab your favorite lipstick and throw on a pretty cardigan, coat or sweater. If you need extra layers opt for tights or this dress could be worn with leggings for a Winter look. Below I rounded up a ton of fun Valentine’s Day-inspired things to shop! I’d love to hear other ideas for Valentine’s Day dates! What are you currently planning to do for the occasion? What have you done in the past that was fun? Leave a comment below or on Instagram!
